A common question among non-believers and believers alike is the question of wether or not we can trust the Bible? We say things like, "There's so many authors, how do we know they were all accurate?" Or "there's so many translations, how do we know those are reliable?" My hope in this blog is to help you see that you can trust what the Bible says!
"There's more evidence that the Bible is a reliable source than there is for any other book from the ancient world." - Dr. Norman Geisler
The Bible claims that its author is God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth.
The Bible is one book, made up of 66 books; 39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament. It was written by 40 different authors, in 3 different languages; over 1500 years. And yet the Bible contains a story with one central theme, has no errors and no contradictions in its message! But don't take my blind word for it, let's look at facts.
Prophecies of the Bible and there fulfillment prove that this book is from God:
There are 191 predictions in the O.T. about the coming of Christ- ancestry, birth city, born of a virgin, time in history when He would die, type of death, resurection and so on. The odds of one man, historically identified as Jesus, fulfilling 48 of the 61 major prophecies concerning the Christ are 1 in 10 and 157; that is 10 with 157 zeros behind it!
Many unbelievers say, "Well science disproves the Bible." Let's look at that claim for a moment:
Isaiah 40:22- the earth is in the shape of a sphere.
Job 26:7- the earth is suspended upon nothing
Genesis 15:5- the stars are too numerous to count
Genesis 1:21; 6:19- all living things produce after their own kind
Leviticus 12-14- the connection between sanitation, health and sickness
Psalm 102:26- Law of entropy (energy running down)
Archeological findings also verify the Bible. There have been thousands of finds in the Middle East that support the picture presented in the Biblical record:
Confirmation of King David, Abraham, Issac, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Jewish captivity, Assyrian kings and Solomon's Temple.
There are also documented miracles that confirm the reliability of the Bible:
Moses and the Exodus, Jesus and His numerous miracles, Elijah and the prophets of Baal.
The Bible changes lives. It has renewed people, given hope, comfort, peace and courage, etc. You can trust it! Let it change your life by trusting in Jesus of whom it greatly testifies!
